John A Hillman - Vice President - Broker - Crane Island
John A Hillman
John Hillman has spent his career building communities that people don't just live in, they belong to. As Vice President and Broker for Crane Island, he brings more than two decades of luxury residential real estate experience to one of Northeast Florida's most distinctive private island communities.
His path to Crane Island runs through some of the world's most celebrated hospitality and resort developments, including work with Ritz-Carlton, One&Only Resorts, and Kerzner International. That background shaped a rare perspective: an understanding of what it truly means to design not just homes, but a way of life. It's exactly the sensibility that Crane Island demands.
"I feel so fortunate to be here at Crane Island. This is truly a blank canvas and for me it's a way to leverage a lifetime of studying the timeless character of the Lowcountry. Crane Island will be a place where we honor the natural environment and the wonderful character of Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach architectural style. I'm excited for the living tradition we will create, and the many tales that will be told on our porches under the twinkle of our gas lanterns." - John A. Hillman
A Career Built on Placemaking
John's expertise spans the full arc of luxury residential development, from land acquisition and master planning through sales, marketing, and community activation. Before joining Crane Island, he led sales and marketing efforts for high-end resort and residential communities across the Bahamas, Hawaii, the Cayman Islands, Texas, and the Southeast United States, building a deep fluency in the intersection of architecture, lifestyle, and long-term value. Over the course of that journey, he led sales organizations that grew from zero to well over $1 billion in residential volume, representing brands like Ritz-Carlton, One&Only Resorts, and Kerzner International along the way.
That range of experience, across gated golf communities, new town developments, mixed-use urban projects, and resort residential, gave John something most real estate professionals don't have: a clear-eyed view of what separates a good community from a great one. The answer, in his experience, is never a single amenity or a floor plan. It's the cumulative effect of thousands of thoughtful decisions, made by the right team, guided by a clear process, and held together by a genuine sense of place.
His mission has always been to create the core value proposition and story for why someone can and should live in the communities he helps bring to life. That means building long-term partnerships between developers, builders, property owners, and everyone else who shapes the daily experience of a place.

Why Crane Island
Crane Island is a 185-acre island alongside Amelia Island, with just 113 homesites, nearly 45% of its land preserved as public space, and an architectural vision rooted in the Low Country traditions of Fernandina Beach and Charleston. For John, it represents everything a community should aspire to be: intimate in scale, uncompromising in quality, and deeply connected to its natural surroundings.
He joined the project because he believes in it. Not as a professional exercise, but as a personal conviction. After a career spent studying what makes places endure, he sees in Crane Island the rare alignment of vision, environment, and execution that produces something genuinely lasting. The island's founding principles, environmental stewardship, thoughtful placemaking, and architecture built to honor the land it sits on, are the same principles that have guided his work for more than two decades.
That belief shows in every conversation he has with prospective buyers. Whether someone is exploring homesites for the first time or finalizing plans with one of Crane Island's five participating builders, John brings the same depth of knowledge and the same conviction: that choosing Crane Island is choosing a way of life worth protecting.
